New South Wales golfer Ben Burge is the surprise mover on day three of the Australian PGA Championship at Hyatt Regency Coolum on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast.
The New South Welshman, who has played mainly on the Korean and Von Nida Tours this season, teed off mid-morning and raced to the turn in 29 to move from his overnight score of 2 under to 9 under and found himself within one shot of Adam Scott’s lead.
Following overnight rain, the conditions were conducive to low scoring and it was not only Burge, who would take advantage of the mild and warm Saturday morning.
Stephen Leaney, who was perhaps buoyed by his partner’s scoring streak, was out in 31 himself to move to seven under for the tournament and within three.
The scoring is expected to be good all day and the moves made by the early starters today, while significant, will be put in perspective when the leaders tee off just before midday.
