Tour card hopefuls tee off in Victoria

The Australasian Tour’s Final Stage of Qualifying begins tomorrow with 87 players looking to gain one of the 35 cards that will make them officially a member of the Australasian Tour, although for many that will mean little in the way of access to the bigger events on that tour.
Essentially it is only the top five players who can be assured, via Category 11, of starts in the bigger local events next season.
For the remaining 30 there may, via category 14, be the chance of perhaps one Australasian Tour start or at least the chance to play all the Von Nida Tour events in 2008 and hopefully use that as a vehicle to greater things in 2009.
The Final Stage is to be played over four rounds at the Peninsula Golf Club (North Course) on the Mornington Peninsula in Victoria with no cut. Those finishing from 36th – 60th will have conditional status.
An interesting mix of established and emerging players will tee it up including the 1999 Australian Masters Champion and ex-PGA Tour player, Craig Spence and previous Jacob’s Creek Open winner and another ex-PGA Tour player, Euan Walters, who are up against significant young talents including Andrew Dodt and Aaron Pike.
