Queensland’s Bronson La’Cassie has fired back to back rounds of 67 to take a three stroke lead at the final stage of the 2007 Australasian PGA Tour Q-School in Victoria today.
La’Cassie, who has spent the last few years at the University of Minnesota in the US, will be pleased with the reversal in form after failing to make it through Stage Two of the US PGA Tour Q-School in November and missing the cut at last week’s Australian Open.
Sitting three strokes adrift of the leader is a trio that includes Andrew Dodt, who is coming off a very successful trip to Malaysia where he earned his card for the 2008 Asian Tour after finishing in a tie for 5th.
Dodt, the current Australian Amateur Stroke Play Champion, closed with a 7 under 65 to leap from equal 27th place overnight. The Queenslander shares equal second place with Rowan Beste, who shot the low round of the day with a 64, and 37-year-old Victorian Euan Walters.
Round one leader, New Zealand’s Kevin Chun, felt the pressure today and slipped back into equal 8th following a one over round of 73.
The top 35 and ties will earn a fully exempt Australasian Tour card for 2008 while those who finish between 36th and 60th will receive limited status for the Von Nida Tour.
