In what shapes as a gripping final day to the Mercedes-Benz Championship on Maui, twelve players are within five shots of the lead after 54 holes and with each and every one of them already proven winners on the PGA Tour, all have a realistic chance to win.
Mike Weir, after a third round of 68, is at 13 under and retains his one shot second round lead but this time it is over the first round leader, Nick Watney, who birdied three of his last four holes for a 67 to close in on Weir. Daniel Chopra (67) and Jonathan Byrd (9) are one shot further back on 11 under.
Stephen Ames is alone in 5th place at 10 under while amongst those still within striking distance is the one of the pre-tournament favourites and world number three, Jim Furyk, who recorded the day’s best round of 66 to move from 17th to 6th.
Australia’s Aaron Baddeley struggled on day three, his round of 73 dropping him back ten places to equal 16th, a bogey that included a penalty shot at the reachable par five last not helping his cause.
