31-year-old South African, Mark Murless, faces one of the most important days of his golfing life tomorrow when he takes a two shot lead into the final round of the Joburg Open. Not only is a first prize of €174,000 on the line but there’s also a bigger pot at the end of the rainbow, in the form of a European Tour card.
Murless has led the event from his opening round of 65 at which point he shared the lead with fellow South African, Tyrone Ferreira, and today added a third round of 69 to lead by two over Ferriera, Spain’s Pablo Larrazabal and Germany’s Sven Struver.
Included amongst those at eight under and three behind Murless is rookie, Ross McGowan, whose round of 64 today was eleven shots better than his second round of 75 and moved him from 41st to 5th. Darren Clarke threatened the field with a round of 67 to continue his recovery from an opening round of 73 and is also at eight under and just three off the lead.
