Choi extends lead at Sony Open

K.J Choi will take a four shot lead into tomorrow’s final round of the Sony Open in Hawaii, his four under 66 moving him four strokes clear of Tim Wilkinson.
Wilkinson finished his round as Choi was teeing off today, the New Zealand rookie’s brilliant 62 had moving him into a share of the lead at that time.
Choi, however, had been putting brilliantly in rounds one and two and although it was not as good today, he drove the ball brilliantly and missed only one green on day three. His four under round of 66 was perhaps the worst he could do and given the relative inexperience of those closest to him, it would seem the event is his to win or lose tomorrow.
“I’m not really concerned about the scores or what I shot,” said Choi referring to a question regarding his round of 66 after his round.
“I’m more concerned about how I’m playing the rounds. I’m very satisfied with my shots, the way I’m shaping my shots. I’m hitting the shots the way I want to. I feel really good about my shots, and I think that’s what matters.”
“If I feel like I had a good round, hitting the shots the way I wanted to, but if it doesn’t turn out to be a low score, I’m not disappointed because I know that I played well.”
Wilkinson is playing his first PGA Tour event as a cardholder although he has played two events on the PGA Tour previously, making the cut on one occasion. He has made a dream start to his PGA Tour career however and irrespective of what happens tomorrow this is a great confidence boost to him.
Steve Marino and Kevin Na are in third place at ten under.
Tomorrow Choi looks to win for the sixth time in his PGA Tour career and continue on where he left off at the completion of what was his best season in 2007. It would take a brave man to bet against him doing so.
