Kaymer extends lead in Abu Dhabi

Martin Kaymer has extended his lead at the Abu Dhabi Championship to sit a massive six shots ahead of Swede Henrik Stenson and by seven over Spain’s Gonzalo Federez Castano and England’s Steve Webster after 36 holes.
Despite a brilliant rookie season in 2007, Kaymer has yet to win on the European Tour but has created a great opportunity this week. He has won twice on the Challenge Tour and is destined for many wins on the European and other Tours.
Kaymer played early on day two and was never challenged during the latter stages of day two. His six shot cushion even more impressive given the quality of the field assembled in Abu Dhabi.
Stenson, who played in the afternoon group on day two, started well in his chase of the leader who was finishing his round as Stenson set out. The Swede birdied three of his first four holes but a bogey at the 5th slowed the momentum and he was unable to get things moving again. He remained at seven under and six shots behind Kaymer throughout his final 13 holes.
All four Australians made the cut in the event, Adam Scott the best of them at 2 under after an ordinary second round of 74 to follow his opening 68. Richard Green on the other hand improved considerably from an opening round of 75 to record a 68 and is at 1 under along with Scott Strange.
Paul Sheehan just made it to the weekend with an even par 72 to be on the cut mark at 1 over.
