Greatest ever representation of Australasians on USPGA Tour
BY Bruce Young | 10 Dec 2002
The year 2003 will see sixteen Australians and three New Zealanders with full playing privileges on the USPGA Tour following final qualifying this morning.
Robert Allenby, Stuart Appleby, Greg Norman, Steve Elkington, Craig Parry, Peter Lonard, Rod Pampling, Greg Chalmers, Geoff Ogilvy, John Senden, Mathew Goggin, Aaron Baddeley, Gavin Coles, Scott Laycock, Anthony Painter and James McLean are the Australians who now have licenses to print money, so to speak. New Zealanders Craig Perks, Phil Tataurangi and Steve Alker will also be playing with full cards. Six of those are rookies namely Baddeley, Coles, Laycock, Painter, McLean and Alker.
Those who are assured of as many as twenty starts, even without full playing rights, are Australians Paul Gow and Steve Allan plus New Zealander Frank Nobilo. They get starts by virtue of their finish between 125th and 150th on this year’s money list, even though they failed to regain their cards at the recent USPGA Tour Q-School. Nobilo’s playing future, however, is in doubt at present, due to lingering injury problems.
