The Victorian PGA Championship gets the 2008 Von Nida Tour series underway when the event is played at the Sanctuary Lakes Golf Club in Melbourne this week.

The tournament organisers have been blessed with a relatively strong field for the event with many Australasian Tour players taking advantage of the opportunity to get their games in shape as they look ahead to the first Australasian Tour event of 2008 in Christchurch in two weeks time.

The Greg Norman designed Sanctuary lakes is only twenty or so minutes from the CBD and sits alongside Port Phillip Bay. The course is playing host to the event for the fourth consecutive year with Cameron Percy, Steve Jeffress and Ashley Hall each having won the event since the tournament moved here.

This year’s field will include Paul Sheehan, Peter Senior, Paul Gow, Terry Price, Cameron Percy, Marc Leishman, Wayne Perske, New Zealander, Michael Long, former NSW Open champion Rick Kulacz and two-time Canadian Tour winner Adam Bland amongst several other well credentialed players either looking to sharpen their games for the coming weeks or to establish their position on the Von Nida Tour.

The tournament carries prizemoney of A$110,000 with a first prize of A$16,500 and is the first of a scheduled eight events on the Von Nida Tour in 2008 with others still under negotiation.
