Chalmers leads in Mexico

Australia’s Greg Chalmers added a second round of 65 to his opening round of 68 at the Mexico Open presented by Corona and, at 9 under par, has taken a one shot lead into the weekend at the Jack Nicklaus designed Tres Marias Golf Club in Morelia.
American Nationwide Tour rookie, Matthew Every, is in second place after producing two eagles late in his round, one of them an ace at the par three 14th to be at 8 under.
Chalmers has recorded 14 birdies in his opening 36 holes and after a very good 8th place finish last week in Panama is clearly in very good early season form.
Chalmers narrowly missed regaining his USPGA Tour card last year at the PGA Tour School when he failed to make the top 25 by an agonising one shot. Based on his early form in 2008 he may well be on track to be back on the PGA Tour in 2009 via the Nationwide Tour. The left hander knows this is a long season however as he also made a very good start to his campaign in 2007 before he fell away later in the season.
Jarrod Lyle is also within striking distance adding a second round of 69 to be at five under and four shots back while Michael Sim was unable to follow up his impressive opening round of 67, his second round of 74 leaving him at 1 under and in 11th position.
Other Australasians, David Lutterus, Aron Price, Andrew Buckle and Grant Waite also made the cut.
