Jarrod Lyle and Greg Chalmers share the lead as the Nationwide Tour’s Mexico Open enters its final round in Morelia tomorrow with both players looking to stake an early claim for PGA Tour status in 2009.
Both players are looking to consolidate their promising start to 2008 in Panama last week where Lyle finished 6th and Chalmers finished 8th. A victory by either of them this week would see them well on their way to regaining USPGA Tour status.
Lyle finished 164th in his debut season on the PGA Tour in 2007 while Chalmers played the Nationwide Tour in 2007 and narrowly missed his PGA Tour card at the Tour Q-School in December.
Chalmers led into day three but survived a somewhat rollercoaster round of five birdies and five bogeys to be at 9 under along with Lyle, who produced a round of 67 to catch his fellow countryman. They lead by one over Americans Tom Johnson and Matt Every.
Michael Sim is at three under and in a share of 6th.
