Victorian Jarrod Lyle has today won his first event as a professional after a stunning final round of 63 at the Mexico Open left him a staggering five shot winner of the Nationwide Tour event.
Leading into the final day with his fellow countryman Greg Chalmers, Lyle made the turn in 29 after four birdies and an eagle left him in charge of his own destiny. Things cooled down for him over the next few holes but such was his lead that he needed only to hang in. In the end he did more than that by adding two late birdies to win by five over American Matt Every.
Chalmers stayed in touch with Lyle until the turn but a back nine of 41 saw him fall back into a share of 5th and nine shots behind the winner.
Lyle now moves well clear at the top of the Nationwide Tour money list, his cheque for US$112,000 adding to the US$20,800 he had earned when 6th in Panama last week.
The Nationwide Tour moves to Christchurch for the New Zealand PGA Championship starting on February the 14th at a venue where Lyle has performed well previously including a runner up placing in 2006.
