Davies confident about Royal Pines

Despite an indifferent four rounds at last week’s MFS Australian Women’s Open, it was a confident Laura Davies who spoke of her chances in this week’s ANZ Ladies Masters.
“That course (Kingston Heath) last week was not suited to my game as I was just not able to keep it on the fairway,” she said in a pre-tournament press conference today.
“Anytime I missed the fairway I was chipping it out but ball-striking wise it was not a bad week and I hit a lot of good iron shots when I did hit the fairway.”
“I feel very confident about my chances this week. I was not surprised by my form at the NSW Open as I had played well late in the season in Dubai and despite a few weeks off, I felt good about my game.”
“I played in the Pro Am this morning and honestly I was surprised by just how good the golf course was in terms of its condition. I played the ball down at all times except if I hit it in a wet bunker.”
“I agree with Karrie’s (Webb) feelings that greens are as good as they have been in several years and if we get good weather then I feel that the scores will be very low. I think Karrie’s record is 26 under and I think that could be threatened.”
When asked who might present good odds in the event she was quick to offer the Swedish player Karin Sjodin.
“Karin is a long hitter and I think on this golf course this week you will need to be that and she plays on the LPGA Tour.”
As a three-time winner of the event and with a victory at the recent NSW Open, Laura Davies, is a sure bet to be well in contention come Sunday afternoon.
