Queensland golfer Scott Draper put behind him the disappointment of being voted off Channel 7’s It Takes Two show earlier this week when he recorded an opening round of 61 at the Audi Australian Four Ball Pro Am Championship at Royal Pines this morning.
The $100,000 72 hole event has attracted a field of leading Australian professionals, several of whom flew back from New Delhi earlier this week to play the event. The tournament not only carries a first prize of $18,000 but the professional in the winning pro am team will also drive away with in an Audi A3 on Sunday. Unfortunately for Draper, he and his amateur partner Greg Rix could not improve on Draper’s personal score in the teams event.
Draper, who was considering not playing the event due to a shoulder injury he incurred last weekend while playing at Keperra Country Golf Club, was amazed at his brilliant start.
“I’m not sure quite where that came from. I think I was just so relaxed today after the adrenalin and hype of ‘It Takes Two’. I came back home and relaxed yesterday and had a few wines and a relaxing dinner last night and made the decision to play and am glad I did.”
An alternate in Victoria was lined up to take Draper’s place in the field if he had not been able to make it but the current New South Wales PGA Champion is now well placed to further advance his professional golf career.
Draper had survived through the opening two rounds of It Takes Two where he was paired with Gold Coast singer Rickie Lee Jones but the duo was perhaps surprisingly voted out on Tuesday evening.
