Briny Baird has the lead at the halfway mark of the Zurich Classic of New Orleans but several Australasians have a chance to challenge over the final 36 holes.
Baird followed up his 4th place finish last week in Puerto Rico with rounds of 67 and 69, recovering from an opening bogey to be one ahead of Peter Lonard and Jay Williamson.
Lonard took a commanding lead with just a few holes to play of his second round but dropped three shots in his last four holes, including a bogey at the par five last when he got caught up in the left rough from the tee.
Three players are at six under and two behind the lead, one of those the defending champion Nick Watney.
New Zealander Tim Wilkinson followed up his impressive 6th placing last week in Puerto Rico when he added a second round of 68 to be at five under along with Steve Elkington, who was a player advisor in Pete Dye’s design of the course.
Nathan Green is in 17th place at 4 under and just four behind Baird.
