Golf Australia today announced that leading golf equipment manufacturer Srixon has made a four-year commitment to elite development as naming-rights sponsor of the Australian Amateur Championships.
The global golfing icon, Srixon, will give its name to all four of the events that comprise the prestigious Australian Amateur starting with the 2008 championships to be held in Adelaide this month.
Tony Hallam, CEO, Golf Australia, said “This is a tremendous partnership that will help cement the Australian Amateur Championships as one of the pre-eminent amateur events in world golf. Australia continues to attract the cream of local and international elite players and we look forward to working with Srixon to make the championships even greater.”
The Australian Men’s Amateur Championship is ranked in the Top 10 international amateur events by The R&A. This is a reflection on the strength of the field and the incentive of direct entry into the Men’s Australian Open and Women’s Australian Open for the respective winners.
One of the strongest fields ever will assemble in Adelaide this month for the 2008 Srixon Australian Amateur Championships. The entry list has a distinct international flavour with 15 nations represented throughout all events, due in part to Australia’s staging of the World Amateur Team Championships in Adelaide this October.
Martin Wright, Managing Director of Srixon Sports Australasia said, “We are delighted to have the opportunity to align our brand with one of Australia’s most historic sporting championships. Srixon has been involved with the Golf Australia/AIS National Squad for the past year and we are looking forward to stepping up our involvement with elite Australian amateur golf.”
“These players are tomorrow’s professional golfing stars and a key part of our strategy is to build strong and enduring relationships. This event is the most prestigious amateur event in the country and it also provides the perfect stage upon which to build and develop these relationships.”
The 2008 Srixon Australian Amateur Championships will be co-hosted by three of Adelaide’s premier golf clubs from April 13-20. The championships comprise the Srixon Australian Men’s Stroke Play at Royal Adelaide and The Grange Golf Clubs, Srixon Australian Women’s Stroke Play at Glenelg Golf Club and then Men’s and Women’s Srixon Australian Amateurs at Royal Adelaide Golf Club. The winners of each event win exemption into the 2008 Men’s Australian Open and the 2009 Women’s Australian Open respectively.
