Valderrama to host Bonallack Trophy

The tournament, which takes place from the 25th to 27th April 2008, will give an opportunity for the Asia-Pacific team to make up for the loss at the last Sir Michael Bonallack Trophy in Auckland, New Zealand in 2006.

The Asia/Pacific team, under the direction of the New Zealander Roger Brennand, includes Rohan Blizzard and Tim Stewart (Australia); Ming-Chuan Chen (Chinese-Taipei); Varut Chomchalam (Thailand); Anthony Fernando (Philippines); James Gill and Danny Lee (New Zealand); Yuki Ito and Naoyuki Tamura (Japan), Bi-Or Kim and Yeong-Su Kim (Korea); Quincy Quek (Singapore).

The European team, led by Gonzaga Escauriaza, is formed by Bjorn Akesson and Joel Sjoholm (Sweden); Wallace Booth (Scotland); Sean Einhaus (Germany); Nigel Edwards (Wales); Benjamin Hebert and Alexandre Kaleka (France); Shane Lowry (Ireland); Callum Macaulay (Scotland); Chris Wood and Daniel Willett (England); and Pedro Oriol (Spain).

The competition will consist of five morning fourball games and five afternoon foursomes on the first two days of the competition (25th and 26th April). The last day, will feature twelve individual games.

In 2006 at the Auckland Golf Club in New Zealand, the European team won by 18 – 14, positioning Europe one victory ahead of the Asia/Pacific team (3 – 2) since the trophy first took place in 1998.

In 2004 in the Circolo Golf Rome, the Asia/Pacific team won over Europe – 16.5 to 15.5 points.

Two years before, in 2002, the victory returned to the Asia – Pacific side, for 18 to 14 points, in Japan. In the first two times the Sir Michael Bonallack Trophy was contested, victory went to Europe (18 to 14 and 20 to 12, respectively).
