Europe has defeated Asia-Pacific by 20 to 12 in the Sir Michael Bonallack Trophy, held at the Club de Golf Valderrama in Spain. The European team, which began the day with a solid advantage (13½ to 6½), confirmed it’s dominace in the individual matches by winning the day 6½ – 5½.
The European team needed only three points at the start of the day to secure a victory and despite a few nervous moments they went on to get the job done with a 6½ to 5½ win in the individual matches.
World number one amateur, Daniel Willett, quickly disposed of Australia’s Rohan Blizard – 7&5 while 2006 Australian Amateur champion, Tim Stewart, gave some hope to the Asia-Pacific team with a 2&1 victory over France’s Benjamin Hebert. Kiwi Danny Lee went down to Alexandre Kaleka while James Gill squared with England’s Chris Wood.
Danny Lee now heads back to New Zealand for the Trans-Tasman Cup, which begins this Thursday.
