Keating sets course record in Townsville

Recent Australian Amateur finalist, Stacey Keating has jumped to a five stroke lead over Ellie Na (Royal Pines) 70-74 after shooting a new course record of 69 at the Townsville Golf Club today in the 2008 Queensland Women’s Stroke Play Championship.
Despite a double bogey on the 4th hole, Keating turned even par after birdies on the 2nd and 8th. Another three birdies on the 10th, 17th and 18th completed her outstanding round. Courtney Massey (Southport) 75-71 is in third place a further two strokes back.
Two Rowes Bay members, 14-year-old Fiona Bell 88-89 and Lynette Townson 91-87 will be fighting it out tomorrow for the title of the 2008 Queensland 54 Hole Stroke Play Champion. Jacinta Foley (Townsville) 91-89 is also a contender for this section.
The Queensland 72 hole Stroke Play Championship continues tomorrow with competitors playing 18 holes each day for the next two days. The Queensland 54 hole Stroke Play Championship (played in conjunction) has its final round tomorrow.
