Keating wins QLD Women's Stroke Play
IN: News | Queensland Women | Queensland Womens Strokeplay Championship (2008) | Round Four | 01 May 2008
21-year-old Victorian golfer Stacey Keating (Victoria) took out the Queensland Women’s 72 Hole Stroke Play Championship by five strokes from Ellie Na (Royal Pines). Keating started the day, nine strokes in front but when she double bogeyd the par 4 12th and also dropped a shot on the 13th things started to close up as Na picked up two shots on the same holes.
Keating’s experience over the later stages of the round proved too much for 14-year-old Na. Keating’s scores of three under (70, 69, 71, 75) for the tournament, which included a new course record on day two, were far too consistent for her fellow competitors. Na finished at two over (70, 74, 75, 71) with defending champion Bree Arthur (Brookwater) 73, 75, 73, 71 in third place.
Local Rowes Bay player Lauren Freeman won the 72 hole nett event with a total of 284 from Ash McCourt (Redcliffe).
Townsville Golf Course was presented in excellent condition and proved a real challenge for all players especially in today’s very strong windy conditions.
