Australia fail to fire at Queen Sirikit

BY Fred Norks | World Amateur Womens Tour | 2008 Queen Sirikit Cup | Round Two | 29 May 2008

Team Australia have moved in to fourth place at the 30th Queen Sirikit Cup following the second day of play at the Sodegaura Country Club in Japan. At eight under, they sit eighteen strokes off the pace set by the hosts, Japan, who have not claimed the title since 2002.

Claire Choi shot a second round of 72 to take outright 10th place on the individual scoreboard while 2008 Karrie Webb Series winner Stephanie Na, fired a 72 to share 11th place at three under alongside South Korea’s Yoon-Kyung Heo.

Western Australia’s Kristie Smith failed to fire again today and closed the day with a 79 to slip in to equal 27th at +7.

Defending champions South Korea, who have won a record ten times since the Cup’s inauguration in 1979, sit one stroke back from Japan and are the only team with a realistic chance of challenging the host team on the final day tomorrow.
