Korea snatches victory at Queen Sirikit

Defending champions South Korea have secured their 11th title in the 30 year history of the Queen Sirikit Cup today at the Sodegarua Country Club, just outside of Tokyo in Japan.
The South Korean team of Jung-Eun Han, Soo-Jin Yang and Yoon-Kyung Heo fired a final day total of nine under (139) to close the tournament on 34 under and three strokes clear of Japan, who had lead the opening two days of the tournament.
An eight under (66) from South Korea’s Jung-Eun Han made the difference in an otherwise tight match between the two giants of Asian golf.
Chinese-Taipei claimed a distant third place on 17 under par after a lacklustre team effort on day three.
The in-form Australian team (Clare Choi, Kristie Smith, Stephanie Na) remained well of contention during the three days of competition and finished twenty-three strokes off the pace.
With 2008 Karrie Webb Series co-winner Kristie Smith failing to break par during the tournament, the pressure was placed firmly on Na and Choi to perform but neither player could match the brilliance coming from the Korean and Japanese camps.
New Zealand (Cathryn Bristow, Dana Kim, Tammy Clelland) finished in outright fifth and four strokes adrift of their Trans Tasman rivals.
