Jason Day Audio Interview - June 2008

There is little doubt that Jason Day is one of the bright young stars of the game, but like so many have before, he is finding his first year on the PGA Tour is not quite as easy as he may have thought.
Jason Day Audio Interview
20-year-old Jason made a decision this week to forgo the opportunity to attempt qualifying for the US Open, preferring instead to concentrate on sorting out some off course issues he needs to address in order to re-focus his attention on his game over the next few months.
“While I have great memories from Torrey Pines I don’t feel at this stage like I am playing well enough to play a US Open course, even if I had qualified,” said Day in our interview.
“There’s a little bit of a lack of confidence at present and I’m in the middle of a move to Fort Worth from Orlando so I thought this was a good time to get those things organised and then get back on top of things.”
In 2006 as an 18-year-old, Day played seven events on the PGA Tour on invitation, making the cut in five of those starts and in 2007 he became the youngest player ever (by nearly two years) to win on the Nationwide Tour with his victory at the Legend Financial Group Classic in Ohio.
I had a chance to catch up with Jason in this audio interview and discussed with him his thoughts on the year to date and what lies ahead.
