Michael Foster remains in the race at the Sunnehanna Invitational in Pennsylvannia, following a second round 72, to be at 2-under-par and T4, three strokes behind defending champion, American Rickie Fowler, who sits at 5-under-par after rounds of 66-69.
Foster’s second round was a mixed affair as the 2007 Rice Planter champion struggled with his driver, yet managed to recover with an excellent short game.
“I lost it out there today with the driver,” remarked Foster.
“I hit only two fairways, but the one thing I did do well was scramble. If I can get the driver going, I’ll be in with a chance as my 2-over today was the worse that I could have scored out there.”
“This is an event I can win,” remarks Foster. “Fowler is not that far in front and really has not produced anything special so far. If I can get the driver straight, I’ll have a good show at this title.”
Justin Roach is the next Australian behind Foster. Roach has fired rounds of 73-74 to be T44 and plus-7 for the tournament. Ray Beaufils’ second round even-par round of 70 was one of the better rounds of the tournament after the Queenslander opened with a 78, and has him at T49 and 8-over-par. Brett Rankin has managed two rounds of 79, to be 67th at 18-over-par.
This evening players were preparing for the Long Drive competition, with Ray Beaufils claiming his preparation and fitness regime has him well place to seriously challenge for the “big-dog” event.
