Lindsey Wright Audio Interview

BY Bruce Young | 21 Jun 2008

While Lindsey Wright’s progress since turning professional nearly five years ago could not be termed meteoric, she has been steadily building on the success she had as an amateur. Now in her fourth full season on the LPGA Tour, the English born Australian golfer, appears on the verge of her first LPGA Tour victory.

Lindsey Wright Audio Interview

Wright has slowly improved her money list ranking each season and in 2008 stands in an all time high position of 24th at the completion of the recent LPGA Championship. She is currently ranked in 42nd position on the Rolex World Rankings and has taken over as Australia’s number two golfer after several impressive tournaments in 2008.

A successful Espirito Santo representative in Australia’s 2002 victory in Malaysia, Wright made the final of the British Women’s British Amateur and the semi-finals of the US Women’s Amateur in 2002. She completed a very successful collegiate career at Pepperdine in 2003 during which she finished runner up at the NCAA Championship in 2002.

Wright’s best finish in LPGA golf was a 3rd at this year’s Fields Open in Hawaii but there is little doubt that her 4th place finish behind Suzann Pettersen at the 2007 McDonald’s LPGA Championship has been her most important performance to date. It proved Wright has the game to compete at close to the highest level and by putting herself in contention on an increasingly regular basis that big breakthrough is not far away.

This coming week Wright will tee it up at the US Women’s Open in Minnesota and Bruce Young took the opportunity to speak with Lindsey on her thoughts about the event, her career to date and the current state of her game.
