The final stage of International Final Qualifying (IFQ) for the Open Championship at Royal Birkdale in Southport from July 19 – 22 will be played over two courses in Dearborn in Michigan and one in Surrey, England on Monday June 30th.
The venues in Michigan are some 90 minutes drive to the south of this week’s venue for the Buick Open, the Warwick Hills Golf Club in Grand Blanc, while for those playing in Surrey they will be required to make a mad dash across the English Channel following this week’s French Open in Paris in order to tee it up on Monday.
Already sixteen Australians and two New Zealanders have earned the right to play the Open and Monday offers one last chance for many others who, until this point, have been unable to earn exemption through the various qualifying categories.
Local Final Qualifying for those who have chosen not to tackle IFQ will take place the week before the Open at venues around Southport.
In Michigan approximately 60 players at each of the two venues will tee it up for a total of 12 places in the Open field, while at Sunningdale 120 players will tee it up for 12 spots.
The Australasians currently in the Open field are Robert Allenby, Stuart Appleby, Aaron Baddeley, Adam Blyth, Michael Campbell, Peter Fowler, Richard Green, Brendan Jones, Brad Lamb, Geoff Ogilvy, Greg Norman, Nick O’Hern, Rod Pampling, Craig Parry, Ewan Porter, Adam Scott, David Smail and Andrew Tampion.
