28-year-old Takuyu Taniguchi turned around what had been until now a rather ordinary season on the 2008 Japan Golf Tour, by winning the Sun Chlorella Classic in Sapporo and in doing so secured his second JPGA Tour career event.
Taniguchi was one of only three players to finish under par on the demanding Otaru Country Club layout, his final round of 68 moving him past 54 hole leader, Dong-Hwan Lee and eventually to a one shot victory over Hidetao Tanihara. Lee finished alone in third place one shot further back.
New Zealander David Smail, just as he had the week before with a 3rd at the nearby Sega Sammy Classic, finished strongly over the weekend to share fourth place with Takashi Kanemoto and Toshinori Muto and Tetsuya Haraguchi.
New Zealander Eddie Lee finished 22nd after a last round of 70 and continued his improvement in recent weeks. Lee finished 14th last week and after an opening round of 78 this week, fought back well.
Wayne Perske was the only Australian to make the cut and finished 41st.
The Japan Golf Tour now has a three week break before the Vana H Cup KBC Augusta event in the southern city of Fukuoka.
