PGA Trainee Professionals from around Australia are preparing to head to the Barossa Valley for the richest tournament on the South Australian Trainee calendar, The Beach Petroleum SA PGA Trainee Championship at Tanunda Pines Golf Club.
With a strong field of Australia’s best rookie professionals on show, the event will feature an impressive field including defending Champion Cody Sherratt (SA), former tour player Nathan Kent (SA) and the 2008 Victorian PGA Trainee Championship runner up Luke Veith (VIC).
Blackwood Golf Club Trainee Cody Sherratt led the Championship from start to finish last year eventually winning by four strokes, and will be looking to recapture that form to become only the fourth Professional in the 39 year history of the event to go back-to-back.
“I am looking forward to the week and defending my title. This four round Championship is great experience for me as I try to progress my career as a PGA Tour player” said Sherratt in the lead up to the event.
Nathan Kent currently in his first year of the PGA Trainee program, is no stranger to tournament golf having played on the Australasian Tour for the past six years before undertaking the traineeship.
The Championship pro-am will mark the start of four days of Championship golf with sponsors and Tanunda Pines members given the chance to play along side the ‘PGA Stars of the Future’.
St Hallett Wines and Apex Bakery will be on course for the pro-am showcasing the fine produce of the Barossa, and allowing a relaxed and memorable experience for all involved in the day.
The tournament proper will be played over 72 holes at the challenging Tanunda Pines Golf Club. Round one and two will be played on Monday, with rounds three and four to be played over Tuesday and Wednesday.
The PGA Southern Division would like to thank the naming right sponsor Beach Petroleum for their continued support of professional golf in South Australia. Local support sponsors for this event include Barossa Valley Machinery, Hage Holden, Apex Bakery and St Hallett Wines.
