16-year-old Saki Suzuki (Lakelands) was in cruise control today, racing to the top of the leader board on day one of the 2008 Queensland Girl’s Amateur Championship. Suzuki leads the field by three shots after firing a scorching 4-under par 70 in perfect conditions on Indooroopilly Golf Club’s East Course. Suzuki’s round featured six birdies.
A further three shots back is 2008 Queensland Women’s Amateur Champion Ellie Na (Royal Pines) who carded a one-under par 73. Queensland Women’s State Team member Jackie Marshall (Pacific) is in third place after returning a steady round of even par 74.
Suzuki also leads the overall nett with Alison Lee (Indooroopilly), both firing an impressive nett 68 (-6).
There was nothing but praise from competitors for the condition of the Indooroopilly layout, with full credit going to course superintendent Charlie Giffard and his team for the preparation they have put into the Championship.
The second and final round of qualifying will commence tomorrow morning with the top 8 leading players after 36 holes qualifying for the Queensland Girls’ Amateur Championship, a match play format commencing Thursday morning.
