Muto wins Tokai Classic

Toshinori Muto won this week’s Coca Cola Tokai Classic near Nagoya when he birdied the 72nd holed and watched as his playing partner, Yuta Ikeda, bogeyed the same hole. The pair had been tied playing the last but the two shot swing allowed Muto to win his second Japan Golf Tour event.
In overcast and wet weather, Muto started the final day tied with Ikeda but his final round of 69 not only gave him his first victory but an all time high of 4th on the Japan Golf Tour money list.
Brendan Jones and David Smail were best of the Australasians in the event, finishing in a share of 8th. Jones is 15th on this year’s money list in Japan while Smail is currently 17th.
Steve Conran finished 11th this week, Chris Campbell and Scott Laycock 16th and Eddie Lee 31st.
The tournament’s marquee player, Camilo Villegas, appeared to run out of out puff after his recent heroics. Villegas, who was looking to defend the title he won last year, recorded a horror third round of 78 and eventually finished 31st.
The Japan Golf tour will now play the Canon Open in Kanagawa Prefecture.
