Sweden have shown the world a clean pair of heels after the first round of the Espirito Santo World Amateur Cup being played in Adelaide.
Led by the runner-up at this year’s British Amateur, Caroline Hedwall who shot a superb 6 under on the Grange East course, the Swedes have streaked to nine under to lead by a massive ten shots over Spain on +1.
The fancied Koreans are way back, T17 on +6 with Australia one shot ahead on +5 in T13 position.
Adelaide’s Stephanie Na was the best of the Aussies on day one following a round of +1 (73). Victoria’s Clare Choi was 44th at +4 with Julie Boland slumping to +6 in a round that featured five bogeys and a triple bogey.
New Zealand have put in a strong first round to be in T4 on +3, equal with five other teams including Canada and defending champions South Africa.
In the Women’s World Amateur, the team’s two best individual scores count.
The World Amateur Cup is a teams event held over four rounds. Australia last won the title in 2002.
