Another hot day for the Swedes in SA

Sweden has maintained their stranglehold on the Espirito Santo Cup with another strong performance today at Adelaide’s West Grange Course.
Anna Nordqvist backed up yesterday’s three under round with a superb four under 68 today to help her team take an eight shot lead over nearest rivals, Spain heading into tomorrow’s third round.
The Swede’s will be hard to beat after opening up with a ten shot lead, the biggest lead in the tournament’s history. Spain have a very strong team in Azahara Munoz, Belen Mozo and Carlotta Ciganda and they will need to play even better than today’s combined eight under score to catch the superhot Swedes.
Australia led by Stephanie Na’s even round 72 today, is in T12 position on +8 equal with Denmark and France. Claire Choi shot 75 on the Grange’s East course, while New South Wales’ Julia Boland posted a 76. The only bright news for the locals is that Stephanie Na is in equal 11th position on the individual player leaderboard.
Across the Tasman, they’ll be keeping their fingers with New Zealand poised to record their best ever finish at the World Amateur Cup. In a bit of neighbourhood rivalry the Kiwis are two shots behind the Aussies on +10 but would be disappointed with their combined +7 score today, which saw them slip down from T4th yesterday.
One of the World Cup favourites, Korea, was unable to make any headway into the tournament and had another poor showing today and are currently on +11, in equal 17th position.
Defending champions South Africa rallied to record a three under combined score on the East Course today and are in outright third, even with the card.
The Esprito Santo Cup is widely regarded as the Olympics of World amateur golf. Our past representatives read as a who ’s who of Australian women’s golf including Karrie Webb, Jane Lock, Liz Cavill, Edwina Kennedy and current LPGA players, Lindsey Wright, Sarah Kemp, Sarah-Jane Kenyon and Katherine Hull.
In 2002 Hull and Wright joined with Vicky Uwland to win Australia’s second Espirito Santo title.
