With Sweden all but assured of taking out their second Espirito Santo Cup tomorrow the real action is in the fight for the minor placings at the Adelaide Grange course.
Both Japan and the United States turned it on today with strong sub par rounds to surge up the leaderboard, just a few shots short of second placed Spain who are on 3 under, 11 adrift of the Swedes who are on 14 under.
The United States had the round of the day, a 4 under, courtesy of Alison Walshe who shot a 69 on the par 73 East course layout.
Both her teammates Amanda Blumenhurst and Tiffany Joh posted even par 72’s to put the Americans in fourth position on +2. Japan had the second best round of 3 under to be even with the card and in outright third position.
The Australians had a combined +3 round today, with Claire Choi carding the team’s best score of +1 74 on the East Course and Stephanie Na scoring a +2 75 round.
The third team member, Julia Boland had another disappointing day with a +7, her card littered with two double bogeys, five bogeys and two birdies.
The home team are currently in T12 position with Scotland on +11.
Sweden, led by the best individual player at the tournament Caroline Hedwall who has shot 8 under for the three rounds, are well on track to win their second World Amateur Cup in just four years.
Sofie Andersson, Karin Sjodin and Louise Stahle won the tournament in 2004 and with the current team boasting both the winner and runner up of this year’s British Amateur it is hard to see them letting this year’s Cup out of their grasp.
