In Midland in Texas, Australia’s Marc Leishman is staking a late claim for PGA Tour status in 2009 by leading the Nationwide Tour’s WNB Classic at the halfway stage, his second round of 66 moving him to 11 under and three ahead of Brendan Todd, Tom Gillis, Spencer Levin and Michael Boyd.
Leishman is currently 56th on this season’s Nationwide Tour money list, a victory this week and the accompanying US$94,500 would take him almost to the point of the amount he needs to finish inside the top 25 at season’s end.
Leishman has yet to win on the Nationwide Tour but he has recorded several victories on the Von Nida Tour and in Korea.
Won Joon Lee at 6 under, Aron Price at 5 under, Cameron Percy at 4 under and Jarrod Lyle at 3 under are other Australians who have done well and who are within reach of Leishman’s 11 under score.
