Australian Brendan Jones shares the opening round lead at the Japan Open in Fukuoka in southern Japan, his opening round of 68 one of only four rounds under par on the opening day.

Jones shares the lead with the 2005 champion Shingo Katayama, while Kaname Yokoo is at 2 under 69 and the 17-year-old Ryo Ishikawa is alone in 4th place at 1 under.

“I was really happy with the way I played today,” said Jones on his website. “I putted well and had a bit of luck here and there. I’m sure the Japan Golf Association will toughen the course tomorrow however.”

Steve Conran is the next best Australian in 13th position at 2 over.
