Brendan Jones has added a second round of 73 and is within one of Shingo Katayama’s lead at the Japan Open Championship in Fukuoka, as the Koga Golf Club layout became increasingly difficult on day two.
Only two players remain under par at the completion of 36 holes, Katayama at 2 under par and Jones at 1 under.
In outright third position is the hottest young player in Japanese golf, Ryo Ishikawa, who stayed in touch at even par and just two from the lead.
Large crowds are expected to flock to the event tomorrow to watch the brilliant 17-year-old look to increase his already huge profile in Japan.
Steve Conran is in 9th place at 5 over, Craig Parry 12th at 6 over, while New Zealander David Smail, a previous winner of the event, just made the cut at 12 over.
