Qualifying has been completed at all venues in week one of Stage One PGA Tour Qualifying and only two Australians have made it through to Stage Two.
Aaron Townsend playing in Kingwood in Texas, finished 11th and was one of the top 25 players who made it through from that venue. New Zealanders Doug Holloway and Brad Heaven missed out.
In Dayton in Nevada, Colorado based New South Welshman, Mathew Zions finished in 15th position and after a year on the European Tour in 2007 and this year on the European Challenge Tour, he looks to take his game to the PGA Tour.
In Beaumont in California none of the Australasians were able to make it through, Matt Etherington and Jake Younan-Wise the best of them in 33rd position. Steve Jones and Aaron Pike were 40th, Scott Draper 45th, Dean Kinney 59th and Jens Nilsson 64th.
In Florence in South Carolina, Andrew Tschudin’s final round of 74 cost him a chance of advancing, eventually finishing two shots from the required mark. South Australia’s Brendan Chant withdrew after 36 holes.
In Key Biscayne in Florida on the high scoring venue at Crandon Park Golf Club, Matt Ballard missed out by two shots.
The feel good story at this venue was the impressive last round by double heart transplant recipient, Erik Compton of the US, whose last round of 68 saw him just make it through. Compton received his second heart transplant earlier this year and made up a huge slice of ground today with what was the best round of the final day.
In St Augustine in Florida, Paul Marantz and Scott Hend have both failed to advance.
Play at a further six First Stage venues will be played over the next week or so with Stage Two commencing on November 12th.
