Yano wins Bridgestone Open

Azuma Yano continued what has been a very consistent run of form in recent weeks on the Japan Golf Tour when he won his second event of the season at this week’s Bridgestone Open and in doing so moved to the top of the Japan Golf Tour money list.
Yano took the lead in this event after a second round of 66 moved him three ahead and he never looked back. He led by two over the then money list leader, Shingo Katayama, heading into the final day and eventually won by four over Takao Nogami, with Shigeki Maruyama a further two shots back in third place.
Yano has finished inside the top ten in each of his last eight starts, his consistency rewarded today with his third Japan Golf Tour title.
Nogami who has won just once on the Japan Golf Tour, that coming in 2005, never really threatened the leader but an eagle at his 16th hole assisted him to his second runner up finish of the season.
Maruyama, who has played in Japan in recent weeks after a horror season in the US in 2009, finished third, his best finish anywhere in nearly twelve months. Maruyama has slipped to a lowly 383rd in the World Ranking but this is a positive sign for the three time PGA Tour winner as he rebuilds confidence.
The best of the Australasians were Craig Parry and Scott Laycock who finished 32nd, Wayne Perske and Eddie Lee 57th and Steve Conran 60th.
The Japan Golf Tour will now play the mynavi ABC Championship near Osaka.
