The Japan Golf Tour’s saviour, Ryo Ishikawa, has further enhanced his already stunning reputation when he produced a come from behind victory at the Myanvani ABC Championship to win by one shot over Keiichiro Fukabori. In doing so the brilliant 17-year-old won his second Japan Golf Tour title and is destined to be on the of the great names in Japanese golf in the years ahead.
18 months ago Ishikawa surprised the golfing world when, at the age of just 15, he won the Munsingwear event and had a fanatical Japanese audience asking for more. Today he provided just that with his steel like nerves as he came from three shots behind the third round leader, Fukabori to edge ahead and confirm the massive audience this young man is bringing to the game.
Ishikawa will be seen in Australia later this year when he plays via invite at the Australian Open at Royal Sydney but almost single handily he has already changed the dynamics of the Japan Golf Tour. A huge crowd witnessed Ishikawa making his final day charge, further highlighting the positive impact he is having on the Japan Golf Tour.
Amongst the Australasian contingent, Chris Campbell and Eddie Lee finished 26th while Scott Laycock was the only other Australasian to make the cut when he finished.
