The second stage of qualifying for the 2009 PGA Tour gets underway this week at four different venues across the USA with several Australasians looking to advance their cause in the quest for status on next year’s PGA Tour.
New Zealander Grant Waite, Scott Gardiner, Ewan Porter, Michael Sim, Matthew Zions, Gavin Coles, Paul Gow and Kim Felton are all chasing places at the Final Stage to be played at the PGA West Course in California from December 3rd – 8th.
Despite Coles finishing 48th on the Nationwide Tour money list and going so close to winning an event on the PGA Tour this season, he is required to go through the grind of Stage Two.
So too is Ewan Porter whose woes in recent months have continued. Being disqualified from the Tour Championship last week cost him the chance to finish inside the top 40 on the Nationwide Tour money list, which would have seen him advance directly to the Final Stage.
Another two venues will be used next week with Mark Hensby, Luke Hickmott, Bradley Iles, Adam Bland, Nick Flanagan, David McKenzie, and Phil Tataurangi, Steve Bowditch, Andrew Bonhomme, David Lutterus, Terry Pilkadaris, Brett Rumford, Aaron Townsend and Kane Webber get their chance.
