Michael Campbell has reluctantly withdrawn from this week’s 2008 Sportsbet Australian Masters after doctors advised him a shoulder injury will need an MRI before he can be cleared to play.
“I am really disappointed to be have to withdraw from the 2008 Sportsbet Australian Masters, said Campbell today. “I have been carrying a niggling shoulder injury since The Open Championship in July and this flared up last week in Hong Kong.”
Campbell had been seen clutching at his right shoulder during a one over par 71 opening round on the suburban Fanling course, and was forced to withdraw from the event in Hong Kong as well. He will undergo an MRI in Sydney on Friday.
The 2005 US Open Champion who is a passionate supporter of golfers from his homeland, has still maintained a presence at the Masters ensuring the New Zealand contingent are well looked after.
“Given my keen interest in helping New Zealand’s future stars, I have organised for my caddie, Michael Waite, to work for Danny Lee this week and hope his experience can assist Danny,” said Campbell.
“I wish everyone all the best for the week in celebrating the 30th year of the Australian Masters.”
