Scott Strange chips in for Breast Cancer

BY iseekgolf.com | 28 Nov 2008

The National Breast Cancer Foundation is pleased to announce that golfer Scott Strange has become an official ambassador, and will use his sporting profile to raise money for breast cancer research and awareness of the disease.

Scott will wear a special pink ribbon shirt on each Friday he plays, as well as donating $50 for every birdie he makes through this week’s Sportsbet Australian Masters, next week’s Cadbury Schweppes Australian PGA Championship and the Australian Open. Scott will continue his support throughout the 2009 season. He is also encouraging people to follow his progress and contribute via the Everyday Hero website – www.everydayhero.com.au/Scott_Strange

Scott has a personal motivation for becoming an NBCF ambassador – earlier this year, his only sister Natalie sadly passed away from cervical cancer at only 32 years of age, with his mother currently undergoing treatment for breast cancer.

One in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime, with more than 13,500 new cases expected in a single year. The good news is that breast cancer is being detected earlier and advancements have been made in the way the disease is treated. These improvements are all due to research, and in Australia much of this research is funded by the NBCF.

Research has demonstrated that regular exercise plays an important part in decreasing the risk of breast cancer, as well as assisting in the recovery of breast cancer survivors. The partnership between Scott and the NBCF will strengthen this message, and will hopefully encourage others to maintain an active and healthy lifestyle to reduce the risk of contracting the disease.
