Big week for Australians at Q-School
BY Bruce Young | US PGA Tour | 2008 USPGA Tour Q-School - Final Stage | Preview | 02 Dec 2008
The Final Stage of USPGA Tour qualifying gets underway on Wednesday December 3rd at La Quinta in California with twelve Australians looking to become one of the leading 25 players and ties who secure the right to play the PGA Tour with full status in 2009.
108 holes stand between the right to play for the substantial PGA Tour purses offered each week in 2009, or the chance to play the Nationwide Tour where most purses average around US$650,000. Having made it this far guarantees most in the field a place to play in 2009 but clearly the opportunity to play the PGA Tour is the goal of all who are in the field of 163 this week.
The players who miss the top 25 and ties will have varying levels of status on the Nationwide Tour.
Australians Steve Allan, Adam Bland, Andrew Bonhomme, Andrew Buckle, Gavin Coles, Jason Day, Stuart Deane, Scott Gardiner, Paul Gow, Matt Jones, Won Joon Lee and James Nitties have all made it through to the Finals via their performances on money lists or via graduating through Stage one or Stage two, or both.
The event is played over two courses at the PGA West facility, the Nicklaus Tournament Course and the TPC Stadium course at La Quinta east of Los Angeles. Six high quality golf courses make up the complex but only two will be used for this marathon test of endurance, patience and emotion.
