BY Bruce Young | LPGA Tour | 2008 LPGA Tour Q-School - Final Stage | Preview | 03 Dec 2008

The Final Stage of LPGA Tour qualifying gets underway on Wednesday 3rd of December at the LPGA International Champions and Legends courses in Daytona Beach in Florida where 140 hopefuls will strive to become one of the leading 20 players to earn full status on the 2009 LPGA Tour.

The event is played over 90 holes with players from 20 countries involved. At the completion of 72 holes, the field is reduced to the leading 70 and ties with those making it through to the final round competing for either full or partial status or, for the unlucky few, none at all.

The top 20 players at the conclusion of the event will earn Priority List Category 11. In the event of a tie, a playoff will decide the 20th position. Players finishing in the 21st through 30th spots will earn Priority List Category 16, followed by 31st to 40th, who will receive Priority List Category 20.

Australians or those with strong Australian connections include Misun Cho, Michelle Ellis, Haeji Kang, Sarah Kemp, Sarah Oh, Anna Rawson and current Australian Amateur Champion, Kristie Smith. Smith has already ensured herself a place to play in 2009 after securing a card for the Futures Tour last month.

Another with strong Australian ties is the Korean Amy Yang who has won twice on the Ladies European Tour in 2008 and who is looking to improve her current limited status on the LPGA Tour.
