Tournament chairman, Steve Frazer, announced that the field for the ANZ Championship has attracted some of the best international golfers in the world to compete at the New South Wales Golf Club at La Perouse from February 6th through 9th 2003.

This AUD$1.75m event is a co-sanctioned tournament on the Australasia and European PGA Tour, attracting 156 players to compete at the event. The Australian contingent will be headed by Craig Parry, Stuart Appleby and Peter Lonard, who have all declined to play at the $A8m Pebble Beach event on the US PGA tour to stay and support the ANZ Championship. Joining this powerful trifecta will be the sensational Adam Scott, 2002 Linde German Masters champion Stephen Leaney and joint 2002 Australian PGA Champion (with Peter Lonard) Jarrod Moseley. The Europeans will be led by three of their triumphant Ryder Cup players including Thomas Bjorn, Niclas Fasth and Phillip Price, who so famously defeated Phil Mickelson in the singles on the final day of the Ryder Cup to steer the European team towards victory.

“We are delighted with the quality of our field and I expect over the next couple of weeks to add additional high profile names to what promises to be a very special event.” Steve Frazer said. “The Alister Mackenzie course at New South Wales is magnificent and is a magnet to the better players. The tournament’s modified stableford scoring system continues to capture the imagination of the aggressive players and I expect very good scoring at La Perouse”.

Tournament invitations have also so far been granted to the winner of the Australasian Q-School, Michael Pearson, winner of the Asian Order of Merit, Jyoti Randhawa, and Australian stalwart, Mike Harwood. Gary Nicklaus, who will bring an impeccable pedigree to Sydney, has also been invited. Additionally, British Amateur champion and next Spanish star Alejandro (Alex) Larrazabal plus young Sth African superstar Charl Schwartzel have been issued invitations to the ANZ Championship.
