Play suspended at Royal Sydney

Play has been suspended on the second day of the Australian Open at the Royal Sydney Golf Club. The sirens sounded at 3.00pm local time, leaving 78 players to complete their second rounds.
Persistent rain that began in the early hours of this morning strengthened as the last groups of the morning field were completing their rounds and by 3.00pm several greens were under water.
The first group out amongst the afternoon tee times included Geoff Ogilvy, John Senden and Paul Goydos who were on the 10th tee when played was called off while the last group out at 2.10pm had played only one hole.
The immediate forecast is not good with further rain expected over the next hour or so and the likelihood of any further play today is slim at this stage.
If that is to be the case then play will likely resume at 7.00am tomorrow and it will be 9.30am before a cut can be made. Two tees will be used and all things going well play should be back on schedule.
The good news is that conditions are expected to improve markedly with a top temperature of 34 degrees forecast for tomorrow.
