MacDonald leads Greg Norman Junior

Redcliffe Golf Club member Taylor MacDonald has fired an impressive 6-under par 66 to lead the Boys – 17 Years and Under division on the opening day of the Greg Norman Junior Masters at Coolangatta Tweed Heads Golf Club.
Despite a bogey on his first hole of the day, the 16-year old MacDonald completed his front nine in a 1-under par 35, before registering an impressive string of birdies at holes 10,11, 13, 14 and 18 for an inward 5-under par 31and the day’s lowest round.
Leading the Girls – 17 Years and Under division is Ashley Ona (Concord), who recorded a 3-under par 70 to lead by 2 shots from Jasmine Finlay (Windaroo Lakes), Elesha Michie (Emerald Lakes), Emma Ash (Kooyonga) with 1-under par 72’s.
Ona, who represented Queensland in 2007 as a junior has just returned to Queensland after living in Sydney for the last 12 months. The talented player said she was pleased to be back in Queensland and the signs are showing on the golf course.
The younger age groups are also hotly contested with the following players shining on day one:
- Boys – 15 Years and Under – Aaron Wilkin (Wynnum) – 70 (-2)
- Girls – 15 Years and Under – Jamie Dougan (Beaudesert) – 71 (-2)
- Boys – 13 Years and Under – Jordan McCarthy (Pacific) – 71 (-1)
- Girls – 13 Years and Under – Annie Choi (GainsboroughGreens) – 72 (-1)
