The first of a series of pro am events run by Australian Ladies Professional Golf, the Aristocrat Bermagui Pro Am has been won by Brisbane’s Tamara Johns.
Johns who was unsuccessful in her recent bid for a card for the lucrative Japan Ladies Tour, attributed her win to the work that she has been doing with coach Ian Triggs who also puts the finishing touches on Rachel Teske, Scott Layccok and John Senden amongst others.
It was a comprehensive four shot win over Victorian Kate McIntosh, who has perhaps been disappointing in her professional career to date.
Current Australian Amateur champion Nikki Campbell was in third place one shot behind McIntosh with Cherie Byrnes in fourth. Campbell has her card now for the Japan Ladies Tour and appears destined for a successful professional career.
44-year-old New Zealander Brenda Ormsby in her first professional start, having secured her card for this year’s European Tour, was eighth.
Of special note was the performance of the President of the ALPG Ann Wilson, who followed up her first round 82 with a second round tournament record equalling 68.
Five more events will be staged in Southern New South Wales before the first of three major events on the ALPG, including the ALPG Contrabart Players Championship at Horizons on Feb 13th, followed by the ANZ Australian Ladies Championship at Royal Pines and the Australian Open at Terrey Hills in Sydney.
