Rachel Duncan has taken out the second of the 2003 ALPG Pro-Am series namely the Mandeni Ladies Plate by beating recently turned professional Vicki Uwland in a playoff.
The 25-year-old West Australian Duncan birdied the first extra hole to beat Uwland after both shot rounds of 69. Scotland’s Dale Reid and Nadina Taylor tied for third one shot back.
For Duncan, who played collegiate golf at the University of New Mexico from 1997 through 1999, this was a significant win as to date her professional career has been rather indifferent. She picked up $2,250 for her effort and no doubt so much needed confidence as she heads into the bigger events coming up over the next few weeks.
For Uwland, who has recently gained her card for the Ladies European Tour, this was her second good performance as a professional. She was fifth last week and having been a member of the Espirito Santo winning team late last year prior to turning pro, the last few months have been particularly rewarding.
Robyn Sottile, Rebecca Stevenson and Anne Marie Knight were all tied in fifth place.
The winner and runner up at Bermagui, Tamara Johns and Nikki Campbell tied for 11th.
The Ladies now play the Tura Beach Ladies Classic.
