The $100,000 Contrabart ALPG Players’ Championship which is to be held at Horizons Golf Resort on 13-16 February 2003 has an outstanding field of over 125 of the world’s best Australian and international ladies professional golfers.
Returning to defend her title will be Spanish sensation, Paula Marti, who is currently No 1 on the 2002 LET Order of Merit. Paula turned professional in September 2000 and has enjoyed career highlights of winning the 2001 La Perla Italian Open which was only her fifth event as a professional golfer. She went on to win the 2001 Ladies British Masters only 3 events later. Since winning the Educom 2002 ALPG Players’ Championship she has tied 2nd in the 2002 Weetabix Women’s British Open, been runner-up in the 2002 French Ladies Open and tied for 3rd in the 2002 Spanish Open. Paula will no doubt have a large crowd of golfing enthusiasts following her progress on course.
Crowd favourite, Jane Crafter has unfortunately been forced to withdraw from the Contrabart ALPG Players’ Championship due to wrist surgery which was undertaken last December. Jane said “I am very disappointed to miss out on playing at this event and hope to return to play in events in March”.
Tickets for the Contrabart ALPG Players’ Championship are now on sale from Horizons Golf Resort and are $10 per person for Thursday and Friday, $15 per person for Saturday and Sunday and $35 for a tournament pass.
There will be no parking on site at Horizons Golf Resort, however, a Park and Ride service will operate from Gan Gan Army Camp, Nelson Bay Road. Port Stephens Coaches will operate a regular shuttle service for the convenience of golfing enthusiasts.
